AP-Rods (Anti Proton-Rods) are smiliar to the fuel rods in nuclear power plants. They contain antiprotons, which are held inside with a magnetic field. If the rods are damaged this could potentially cause the destruction of the ship. Those rods are for example installed in the engine room of the Andromeda.
