As 2015 gets underway, national organizations speak out about issues for eye health in the UK.


The Times has recently released an article about issues coming from Great Britain organizations concerning general eye care health. According to eye doctor Russell Peake, how our general health plays is an essential function in the health of our eyes for how well they see as they grow older. He also said... "Existing research projects indicate that being more active can help to decrease the danger of the loss of sight from high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and constricting or hardening of the arteries."

Russell, a Manager for Boots Opticians, states that it is extremely important to make healthy decisions when it concerns the eyes. He also said... "Eyes age much like any other part of the body. Look, skin wrinkling is something, however losing your eyesight is something completely different. I mean picture not having the ability to see your grandchildren. One of the highest risks for eyesight is smoking, almost doubling the danger of loss of sight, through conditions like cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading reason for sight loss in the Great Britain."

The Royal National Institute of Blind Persons states that 100 people in the Great Britain begin to lose their sight every day, yet 50 % of sight loss could be stopped, with giving up smoking being an essential element. Russell includes... "Numerous smokers simply do not recognize their bad habit causes eye damage, though researches have already explained the link between smoking and loss of vision as being as strong as the link between smoking and cancer."

Russell describes that dry eyes is a common condition amongst older people, which can be extremely unpleasant. He includes... "When we're looking at COMPUTER screens, cellular phones and iPads, we just manage to blink half as much as we would usually, suggesting the eyes dry out a lot quicker. Another threat to healthy eye sight is a particular spectrum of blue-violet light that can lead to retinal cell death. This spectrum originates from sunlight, the light created by LED and cellular phone screens, as well as low-energy light bulbs."

According to Russell taking care of eye health doesn't even stop there. He also said... "Ultra-violet (UV) sunlight rays do have a destructive effect on eyes so it's extremely important that both adults and children safeguard their eyes from dangerous sun rays by wearing quality sunglasses for outdoors and having a car window sunshade set up for vehicle trips. Kid's eyes are extremely susceptible, as approximately 80 % of UV being exposed to eyes happens before  18. Amazingly enough, though 95 % of people understand that skin damage and sun exposure are related, just 7 % actually understand that the sun damages our eyes. Prolonged exposure to the sun's UV rays has already been linked to cataracts, macular degeneration and even specific kinds of eye cancer."
