Beka Valentine tries to pilot the Andromeda Ascendant through slipstream routes that possibly lead to Dylan’s home planet, Tarn-Vedra.

It makes a lovely light comes from Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem "First Fig" (from A Few Figs from Thistles):

I burn my candle at both ends,
It will not last the night
But oh my foes and oh my friends,
It makes a lovely light.

The route to Tarn-Vedra would take the ship close to a charged plasma nebula that Beka refers to as "The Black Goat with a Thousand Young". This is one of the titles given to Shub-Niggurath, one of the Outer Gods in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. (TV.com)
