The Pyrians are a methan breathing race and have, due to the different needs and interests, peacefully coexisted with the oxygen breathing races.
The old Commonwealth signed treaties with the Pyrians (6883 CY) to consolidate the peace, but when the Commonwealth fell, the Pyrians felt no longer bound to these treaties and started to terraform several planets to their needs.
The Pyrian torch ships have been equal to High Guard heavy cruisers in armament and durability before the long night, and it's most likely they used the times of chaos to further improve themselves.
