Comments from the Crew

  • Harpers comment on the events:

"Hallelujah they're gone!
Right. So the last time you heard from me I was whining about this pain in my gut where I was BEING EATEN ALIVE FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
Ahem, anyway, yeah. I had this little Magog larvae infestation problem and it really sucked. I mean, really really sucked. There was this awful medicine that sort of slowed them down for a while, but believe me, it was creepy having these little aliens crawling around in my stomach, munching on anything they could find. And it was always hanging over my head - no cure, just a slow death.
Well - I'm all better now. With a little help from the genius half of my brain, and a Persied or two, we got this little problem all figured out. See we fold space, and ... well... screw up time pretty bad... and well it was pretty messy. It's a long story, but one of the research team didn't even make it out alive. (Poor Höne, I barely knew you.)
But believe me, buddy. I really appreciate the sacrifice to science... and my well-being. Besides, I think every Persied's dream is to die from an experiment gone awry."

  • Trance on her metamorphosis:

"What the heck happened to you?
People just keep asking me this, so I finally decided to write it down. That way I can just hand them this note instead of starting from the beginning again.
It's like this. Things in the future are bad, really bad, and getting worse. The future I have seen is a place no one wants to live in. Yes, there is one possibility for a perfect future but I haven't see it yet. I can't say anymore about it. The future. If I do it would be dangerous for me and for you.
But here I am and I am different. Maybe. Harper's attempt to exterminate the Magog eggs in his stomach created a watershed event in space and time, but it's also caused a serious crisis. A crisis that if we - I - didn't handle correctly could have ended poorly for all of us.
Which leads to the "new" me. I mean, I'm still Trance, I just grew up. Yes, I did switch places with myself which allowed me to grow up really fast from your point of view, but I didn't go anywhere."

Quotes

  • "Farewell my friends, my family
Ever since my time on the Magog ship I've felt lost; confused. I don't have answers for what I'm feeling or why, but I thought it time I started asking questions, wherever they might lead.
Until I see you all again, know this - wherever my path may lead, even in the darkest places, I will carry you all in my heart and you will light my way.
    Always."

~ Rev Bem

Title

  • The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon swallowing its own tail and forming a circle. It has been used to represent many things over the ages, but it most generally symbolizes ideas of cyclicality, unity, or infinity. (Wikipedia)

Episode

  • Harper: "Engineer, heal thyself."

From the Bible, Luke 4:23 (King James Version):
And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
Meaning: Attend to one's own faults, in preference to pointing out the faults of others.
(Phrases)

  • Harper: "I believe in Seamus Zelazny Harper. I cogito therefore I sum and I sum to cogito the damn machine right out of existence, capiche?"

Cogito, ergo sum (Latin: "I think, therefore I am") or Dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum (Latin: "I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am") is a philosophical statement used by René Descartes, which became a foundational element of Western philosophy. "Cogito ergo sum" is a translation of Descartes' original French statement: "Je pense, donc je suis", which occurs in his Discourse on Method (1637). (Wikipedia)
